The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that freezing of assets is part of the integral counterterrorism policy of The Netherlands. The national sanction lists contain the names of individuals and organisations who are involved in terrorist activities.
In accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1373 (2001) their assets have been frozen, causing them to amongst other things no longer being able to withdraw money from their bank accounts, nor use their credit cards. Since terrorist acts require funding this measure thus makes it significantly more difficult to commit or be (financially) involved with them.
