The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) maintains the Suspended and Ineligible (S&I) List under the Welfare and Institutions Code sections 14043.6 and 14123. The list identifies Medi-Cal providers suspended from participation in the state’s healthcare program due to violations of program integrity or provider qualifications.
A Medi-Cal provider may be suspended when the individual or entity has:
- Been convicted of a felony;
- Been convicted of a misdemeanor involving fraud, abuse of the Medi-Cal program or any patient, or otherwise substantially related to provider qualifications or duties;
- Been suspended or excluded from federal Medicare or Medicaid programs;
- Lost or surrendered a professional license, certificate or approval to provide healthcare services; or
- Breached a contractual agreement with the Department that explicitly specifies inclusion on this list as a consequence.
The S&I List enables healthcare institutions and contractors to identify individuals or entities barred from participation in the Medi-Cal program.
The list is not all-inclusive. Temporary sanctions, such as short-term suspensions, payment withholds or deactivations, are not published on the public website.
