Weak AKAs (shorthand for Weak Also Known As, or Weak alias, or nickname) refers to an alias that is sometimes used by an individual or entity, but which is not their legal name.
For example, Rafael Aviles, a wanted criminal in the US has a Weak AKA of "blaze." An investigator may search by the alias "blaze", but "blaze" is also not going to be on any official documentation. Castellum.AI also enriches profiles with new Weak AKAs. For example, those wanting to see the profile of Alisher Burkhanovich Usmanov can simply search "Usmanov" because that is also a Weak AKA.
Castellum.AI had made it easy for users to see this information, or not, based on a Weak AKA toggle. Want to have a broad search and only have a partial name or nickname? Leave Weak AKAs on. Know exactly who you're looking for? Turn it off.
Its important to note that Weak AKAs are part of official sanctions guidance from multiple regulators, including The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control. Users are NOT required to screen for them, but may want to depending on the use case.
