The Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the US Department of Health and Human Services maintains the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE), identifying persons and entities excluded from participation in federally funded healthcare programs. Exclusions may result from convictions related to Medicare or Medicaid fraud or other program violations.
Individuals and entities on the LEIE are prohibited from receiving payment for items or services furnished, ordered or prescribed under federal healthcare programs, including those funded directly or indirectly by the US government (except the Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan). Employers or contractors who engage excluded parties may be subject to civil monetary penalties (CMP).
